Golden and Sandvault launch first bike share in BC

In May 2011, the town of Golden and Sandvault Group Global Solutions launched their full season of the first ever public bike share in British Columbia. The Golden Community Bike Share (GCBS) has three goals: to promote active transportation and a healthy life style, to reduce green house gas emissions from the use of cars and to reduce bike theft.

Public Bike Shares are the fastest growing form of urban transportation. Since the first systems were launched in 2005, more than 270 cities globally have adopted “PBS” systems.

“We are a small town and it is a real privilege to be able to work with Sandvault Group Global Solutions on this innovative community bike share program.” Says Mayor Christina Benty. “Being a healthy and active community is important to us so the bike program is a natural fit expanding transportation options for locals and tourists.”

The town of Golden has implemented the latest version of Sandvault’s Cyclestation system , the industry’s leading platform for public bike share. Golden paired Cyclestation with AfricaBikes from Vancouver based Kona Bikes “Sandvault is honoured to be the launch partner of the first bike share in BC” said Rick Murray, President of Sandvault. “The town of Golden has been tremendous partner and shows the ability of Cyclestation to adapt to a local community, in this case with Kona and their incredible AfricaBike program.”

Golden’s bike share is open for business for local citizens and visitors alike.
